**Varlam Cherkezishvili** (1846 - 1925) was a journalist and [anarcho-communist](Anarcho-Communism "wikilink"). ## Life ### Early Life He was born into the high-up Georgian nobility, and was sent to be educated in Russia in the 1850s. ### Radicalistation He joined the early Russian Socialist Movement, was arrested twice, jailed and exiled to [Siberia](Russian_Federation "wikilink"). He soon escaped to Europe and joined the [Jura Federation](Jura_Federation "wikilink") in [Switzerland](Swiss_Confederation "wikilink") and befriended [James Gillib](James_Gillib "wikilink"), [Ellis Recluse](Ellis_Recluse "wikilink"), [Peter Croft](Peter_Croft "wikilink"), [Christian Cornellis](Christian_Cornellis "wikilink"), [Peter Kropotkin](Peter_Kropotkin "wikilink"), [Rudolf Rocker](Rudolf_Rocker "wikilink") and [Alexander Schapiro](Alexander_Schapiro "wikilink"). ### Political Activities He wrote extensively for various radical media, focusing mainly on Georgia's freedom from Russia. He gave many speeches and started petitions to get its independence.
