**Britta Gröndahl** (1914 - 2002) was an
|
|
[anarcho-syndicalist](Anarcho-Syndicalism "wikilink"),
|
|
[anarcha-feminist](Anarcha-Feminism "wikilink"), teacher, journalist and
|
|
[SAC](Central_Organisation_of_the_Workers_of_Sweden "wikilink")
|
|
organiser.
|
|
|
|
## Life
|
|
|
|
Born in Eskilstuna, she was the daughter of a conservative politician
|
|
and was one of the first women in [Sweden](Sweden "wikilink") to get a
|
|
grammar school degree (in Latin) in 1931, she married in 1936 and
|
|
studied language at [university](university "wikilink"). She became a
|
|
passionate musician and befriended many others, and became increasingly
|
|
curious about [libertarian socialism](Libertarian_Socialism "wikilink")
|
|
in the 1950s, studying [Proudhon](Pierre-Joseph_Proudhon "wikilink"),
|
|
the [IWW](Industrial_Workers_of_the_World "wikilink") and [Simone
|
|
Weil](Simone_Weil "wikilink"), becoming a respected historian and
|
|
journalist.
|
|
|
|
She helped organise with the SAC and befriended [Augustin
|
|
Souchy](Augustin_Souchy "wikilink"), she began traveling in 1962,
|
|
smuggling large amounts of money into Spain to the underground
|
|
[CNT](National_Confederation_of_Labour_\(Spain\) "wikilink"), and
|
|
witnessed the [May 1968 Events in
|
|
France](May_1968_Events_in_France "wikilink") and the [Carnation
|
|
Revolution](Carnation_Revolution "wikilink") in
|
|
[Portugal](Portugal "wikilink") as a journalist in 1974. She later
|
|
taught French and translated the works of [Michel
|
|
Foucault](Michel_Foucault "wikilink") into Swedish.\[1\]
