**Cherán** is a small town in [Mexico](United_Mexican_States "wikilink")

that has practiced self-governance since
|
||
[2011](Timeline_of_Libertarian_Socialism "wikilink") as a result of the
|
||
[Cherán Revolution](Cherán_Revolution "wikilink").
|
||
|
||
## Crime
|
||
|
||
There hasn’t had a slaying or other serious crime since early 2011.\[1\]
|
||
|
||
## Economy
|
||
|
||
The town has started several [worker
|
||
cooperatives](Worker_Cooperative "wikilink"), notably a greenhouse,
|
||
sawmill and concrete factory.\[2\]

||
|

## Environmental Protection
|
||
|
||
Reforestation efforts undertaken by the community have led to the
|
||
reforestation of 1,500 hectares of land (2/3rds of what had been
|
||
deforested) as of 2015.\[3\]
